April 2015 Meeting

Safety First, Last and Forever

caution

Everyone is excited about getting those much coveted Ride Leader Jerseys at the April Membership Meeting. Well folks, it ain’t gonna happen. Oh my goodness you say?! What happened you ask?? Well, it’s like this. The shirts were shipped on a slow boat from China, literally! But don’t despair! This just gives us another reason to look forward to the May Meeting.

But giving out the jerseys was just one part of the April Meeting. The other part is Tom Conlon’s Ride Safety presentation.

Here’s what Tom has to say about the presentation… “Match wits at our April meeting with fellow participants in one well-known touring club’s version of competitive riding.

As a member, or leader of a club ride win prizes for laughs and applause as your team applies its understanding of traffic laws, etiquette, club policies, road signs, emergency medicine, animal (and human) behavior, weather, and the laws of physics from preparing for your ride through your traffic court appearance. At the meeting you’ll gather your favorite riding companions and encounter common as well as improbable situations. This game is PG rated.”

OK, here’s a preview of what you can expect. In the accompanying picture, what is the sign trying to tell us? Think carefully about this. The yellow color means it a cautionary sign. Make sense so far? OK. What does the person over the bicycle mean? Do you give up yet? You’re never going to get this. Here’s the answer. The sign is to warn cyclist to beware of low flying pedestrians! Duh! You can stop groaning now and mark this date on your calendar.
