When the mercury dips below 32 degrees and there’s snow and ice coating the roadways, many of us forsake biking on the roads for the warmth and safety of riding on our trainers in our living rooms and basements. Unfortunately, the unchanging scenery and lack of companionship can make a workout feel never ending and monotonous.

Well, thanks to modern science and technology, all that is a thing of the past! Now with computer applications like Zwift, you have a new way to ignore your spouse or significant other, EVEN in the winter! Go shovel the driveway? Throw some more coal in the furnace?  “Not right now dear, but as soon as we finish our ride!”

At the next BTCNJ Membership Meeting on February 11, Rich Brookler and Michael Gisler will be demonstrating how, with the addition of some gadgets and do-dads to your trainer…and a computer, you (and your equally inattentive pals) can do group rides in the warmth and safety of your own homes!

And guess what?? These rides even show up on Strava, so it’s almost like it really happened!

Seriously, these programs can make riding your bike on a trainer actually a fun workout while helping you stay in shape over the winter.
