Saturday, June 3rd

picnic

Please join us for one of the club’s memorable social events! The annual BTCNJ picnic, which will be held at a new Iocation this year. We have moved the picnic site to the Pascack Brook County Park in Westwood, NJ 07675. The park website is http://www.co.bergen.nj.us/842/ Pascack-Brook-County-Park.

The picnic date is set for Saturday, June 3, with a rain date the next day, Sunday, June 4. The Club has taken out permits at Pascack Brook County Park for both dates… So if the weather man (or woman) cooperates, and the picnic takes place as scheduled on the 3rd, we are going to have rides from various start sites and ride levels, with a rendezvous for all at Pascack Brook County Park on the 4th for a pizza lunch. Cost will be $5 per person payable at the park. Again… if the Picnic is rained out on the 3rd we will have the Picnic on the 4th and there will be no pizza lunch.

Rides of all levels, A through D, depart from Pascack Brook County Park in the morning, before the picnic. The park gates open at 7:30 AM for the ride starts. Check the BTCNJ website for the ride listings and departure times. We will picnic in Pavilion B, and rides will gather in the large parking area just past the Pavilion B. Cooking burgers and hot dogs generally starts around noon. The roads around Pascack Brook County Park are lovely for riding. Please bring one potluck dish that will feed 6-8 people. Bring two if you like! There is usually no shortage of appetites. Review the categories that follow, find the letter your last name begins with and the food recommended to bring:

  • A – G: Salads, veggies, pasta;
  • H – K: Snacks, chips, dips;
  • L – N: Fruit;
  • O – Q: Desserts;
  • R – Z: Main dishes

Vegetarian dishes are welcome.

The best way to keep food fresh for the picnic while you are riding in the morning is to bring a cooler or other container with ice and leave it in your car. Please don’t drop off food at the picnic site before you leave for your ride because we don’t have enough coolers to keep it fresh. The club provides hot charcoal-broiled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and non-alcoholic cold drinks (alcohol is prohibited); members bring their favorite recipe—cold salads, side dishes, and lots of desserts to share with everyone.

We need volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, marshaling the food tables, and helping out in the grill area. All help will be appreciated. To volunteer, contact Claudia Dukeshire or check the member directory for Claudia’s phone number.
