CAMPGAW PICNIC AREA – MAHWAH, NJ
It’s picnic season time– please join us for one of the club’s highlighted events! The annual BTCNJ picnic at beautiful Campgaw Mountain Reservation in Mahwah will take place on Sunday, June 5. A time for club members to ride together and meet up afterwards to hang out with new and old friends to socialize and enjoy lots of food. It’s also a great time and place for new members to experience a friendly introduction to the BTCNJ group.
Rides of all levels, A through D, depart from Campgaw Mountain Reservation in the morning, before the picnic. The park gates open at 7:30 AM for the ride starts. Check the website for the ride listings and departure times. Rides will meet in the large gravel parking area near the picnic site off Campgaw Road.. This is on the left just past the Campgaw ski slope access road. The picnic begins when members return from the morning rides. Cooking burgers and hot dogs generally starts around noon and the picnic runs through the mid-afternoon. The roads around Campgaw are lovely for riding without heavy traffic.
The cost of participation? FOOD! Please bring one potluck dish that will feed 6-8 people. Bring two if you like! There is usually no shortage of appetites. Review the categories below, find the letter your last name begins with and the food recommended to bring: A – E: Main dishes; F – J: Desserts; K – M: Fruit; N – R: Snacks, chips, dips; S – Z: Salads, veggies, pasta. Vegetarian dishes are welcome.
The best way to keep food fresh for the picnic while you are riding in the morning is to bring a cooler or other container with ice and leave it in your car. Please don’t drop off food at the picnic site before you leave for your ride. The club provides hot charcoal-broiled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and non-alcoholic cold drinks; members bring their favorite recipe cold salads, side dishes, and lots of desserts to share with everyone.
We need volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, marshaling the food tables, and helping out in the grill area. All help will be appreciated. To volunteer, contact Claudia Dukeshire at (201) 818-0480 or [email protected]
Finding the BTCNJ picnic could not be easier– it’s the same area where the Ramapo Rally is held. The only variation is to bear left at the gate that leads to the ski area, and you will see the picnic area on your left. You can also find directions at http://www.skicampgaw.com/directions.html.
